The place where our shop is located may not be an actual town, but that doesn’t make it any less home to us.
Dusty Bend, a community in the city of Camden, has long been known for its horse culture. It’s where many converge every year for the annual Carolina Cup horse race.
Legend has it that Dusty Bend was aptly named because of a consistent cloud of dust that hung over the area from wagons and automobile traffic. While the bending road is paved today, it still draws crowds to check out local shops (like ours), grab a bite to eat or stock up on tack.
On the north side of Camden, Dusty Bend is, in a sense, Camden’s second downtown. For residents living on Lake Wateree, near the famous Springdale Racecourse, or the north side of town, Dusty Bend has everything you could ask for from restaurants, bars, pharmacies, groceries, banks, auto shops, a post office, antique shops, equestrian gear, furniture shops, gyms, video rental (back in the day!), a movie theater, and more.
This gives Dusty Bend its unique character and forms a community around this “second downtown”. Three Sisters Essentials is proud to add our name to that legacy and happily promote Dusty Bend businesses like Off The Hook Seafood, The Tack Room, Revolution Nutrition, Covey’s, Fox’s Den, Everyday Gourmet, Needful Things, and Hunter’s Trace Farm Hay and Feed.
As the oldest inland city in South Carolina, Camden and neighborhoods like Dusty Bend have so much history and many stories to tell. And that’s just one of the reasons we love living here.
